Please take a moment to read these poems, as I read them I could remember calls I have been on, and if you are not an EMT or Paramedic they just might help you understand us.

At times I think of all I see

At times I think of all I see
in my job from day to day
So many time I want to quit
yet, something makes me stay

So many times i have questioned
this path that I must take
and how someone's life will be affected
over the decisions that I make

I went to school and learned the skills
to become an EMT
but when the class was over
You weren't finished teaching me

The most important lessons I have learned
are the ones You teach me everyday
to have compassion for human life
for I could be in their place

And although I may see the worst of the world
You have trained meto look for the best
You have taught me to love and care for all
You have blessed me with EMS.

Dad's Little Angel of Mercy

A new life had just entered the world and I held her in my arm

And I made a silent promise to try my best to keep her safe from harm

With big blue eyes that would set any new dad's heart aglow

Never realizing as I looked at her how quickly my little angel would grow...

I would watch her care for her dolls...a game she would often play

And listen as she would tell them that she was there and they were going to be OK

A child's game of pretend which she would play just for fun

But as time went by I began to see that she would become one of God's chosen one...

To give her all to those in need who's life may suddenly end

An angel of mercy to a dying soul...a special person God has send

Risking it all...not for glamour that so many yearn to gain

But simply because of their love of others and to help to ease their pain...

I can no longer protect her as she crawls inside a mangled wreck

To stabilize and rescue someone who may possibly have a broken neck

Or be with her as she holds an infant who will never again see the sun

For now my little angel is not playing with dolls and this is no longer a game or fun...

Each time I hear her roll on a 911 in my heart I silently pray

That God will be by her side and keep her safe another day

For He has called her and she has answered to be one of the best

She is now "your little angel"...an angel of mercy with the EMS...

Did you?

Did you see me I when looked at you eyes full of fright and fear?
Did you see me when I wiped your face from that single falling tear?

Did you see me when I hugged your child to keep them safe and calm?
Did you see me when I saved your life without a seatbelt on?

Did you see me all those many times I came and sat and talked?
Did you see me with your lonely mom and all we did was walk

Will you see me next time when I come and hold your hand so tight?
Will you see me when I come to you so very late at night?

Will you care for all the others that had to spend their lives?
Will you care that I will care for your husbands or your wives?

I was there all those many times without a question raised
I was there for the little things and didn’t want the praise

I will be there for the both of us every night and every day
I will stand beside you help and guide you in every possible way

The job I do not just for you, I do for everyone
The job I do not just for me, is not always fun

You need to see the things I do are not for all the glory
You need to see the things I do don’t make a bedtime story

Please see me every time I pass by with flying colors
Please see me that I'm helping you and helping all those others

I'll pick you up and care for just like you were my kin
Please do the same and care for me for love will always win

EMS...

EMS is more than a job,
it's a dedication, a lifestyle, a commitment.
It's the hope that we may make a difference in someone's chance for life.
Regaurdless of the struggles
or how hard the strife.
It's a dedication to your patients,
for their health and well-being.
It's a hand to catch their fall,
without them even seeing.
It's a lifestyle we chose to live,
no sleep and half eaten meals,
it's time given up with our families
so your wound we may heal.
It's the commitment that we will be there,
when you're hurt, scared, and all alone,
it's the hope your life may be better
through the compassion that we've shown.

EMT Prayer

As I perform my duty lord whatever maybe the call

Help to guide and keep me safe from the dangers big and small.

I want to serve and do my best no matter what the scene,

I pledge to keep my skills refined,

My judgment, quick and keen.

This calling to give to myself, most do not understand,

But i am ready all the time to help my fellowman.

To have the chance to save a child

Restore his laughter with glee,

A word of thanks I might not hear.

But knowing is enough for me.

The praise of men is fine for some,

But i truly feel blessed,

That you oh lord,

have chosen me to serve in the

EMS.

EMT/Paramedic Poem

Sorry if we woke you in the middle of the night
But someone in your neighborhood is fighting for his life.
Sorry if we block the road and make you turn around,
But there's been a bad wreck with dying children on the ground.
When you see us coming you'll understand
Let us have the right-of-way - someone needs a helping hand
Sometimes a child is choking, sometimes a broken leg.
Sometimes a heart stops beating, and when we get there it's too late.
So if you see us crying when we think we're alone
You'll know we had a "bad" one and we're feeling mighty down.
We don't do it for the money -- you know we don't get paid.
We don't do it for the glory but for a life that might be saved.
Somewhere deep within us our souls are crying out
"We're here to help our neighbors in their hour of pain and doubt."
God gave us something special to help us see you through
We do it 'cause we love you, and we care about you too.
